With the evolution of electric vehicles, the need to create tyres dedicated to this type of car has consequently developed.
But what specifications do they have to make them better than those used so far? How to choose the best tyres for electric and hybrid vehicles?
The tyre designed for electric vehicles allows, in particular, to optimize the battery life and to reduce the rolling resistance, other than improving the driving experience.
But let's analyze its characteristics together specifically.
Due to the limited capacities of the batteries, electric vehicles still have a shorter range compared to conventional combustion engines. This is where tires come in handy. The lower the rolling resistance is, the lower the energy consumption, and this applies to all types of vehicles. In this way it is possible to obtain additional autonomy, increasing efficiency from an energy point of view, and at the same time increasing sustainability given the low environmental impact, which is certainly an interesting aspect, without leaving aside the fluidity of driving.
The electric motors are almost soundproofed and, in this way, the driver hears the noise produced by the tires. To significantly reduce the noise of the latter, therefore, the sequence of the blocks can be optimized. The tread, to promote silence, must therefore be smooth, a decisive aspect for comfort on board these vehicles.
Electric cars are heavier than the others and involve greater stresses especially during acceleration. Therefore this data must also be taken into account. In terms of load, electric vehicles can weigh up to 30% more than traditional cars, mainly due to the batteries that often reach and exceed 400 kilograms in total weight. Typically, with all this extra weight, the gravity center drops, which makes the tires work harder.
Thus, the tires for electric vehicles, carrying a heavier load and having to resist the torque of immediate delivery, which involve greater wear, are modified by intervening on the carcass and on the compound to become more robust.
By now almost all tire manufacturers have launched into their creation (Continental, Michelin, Hankook, Pirelli ...).
Hankook, for example, has just launched the newest gamma iON evo, “evolved to provide excellent performance”. The specific models released are:
All four models have been specifically designed to continue improving the performance of electric vehicles, making the usability of these cars even easier.

The Type of the car is a code that the producer assigns to each vehicle in order to distinguish it from similar models.
You can find this code in the italian registration certificate in two places: At point D.2, Vehicle type, or at point E, vehicle identification number.
