When choosing the new alloy wheels to fit on your car, you have to take into account some values, in particular a parameter, indicated as ET.
What does the ET symbol of the circle mean and how does it affect the choice of the size of the circles?
The abbreviation ET comes from German and stands for "Einpress Tiefe", commonly called "offset", coincides with the distance - expressed in millimeters - that separates the central plane of the wheel from the point where it is fixed.
Many motorists choose alloy wheels with a different ET than the original ones when they have to change their wheels, for several reasons:
The effects of the changes vary, however, depending on the cars.
When the fixing point is located perfectly in the center, the ET will be equal to 0.
If instead the fixing plane is moved more outwards, the ET will be positive, while with a more internal displacement you will have a negative ET. The offset is directly related to the width of the circle: therefore, the lower the value expressed by the ET, the more the circles will protrude outwards; on the contrary, with a high value of ET, the wheels will be indented more inwards.
Absolutely yes, even if every change is to be considered attention and caution because in modern cars the space between the wheel and the wheel arch is reduced. By changing the ET or the width of the rim, you risk causing - especially with excessive load - the rubbing of the wheel on the fender or the contact between the wheel and the brake caliper.
To know which ET you can mount on your car just go to CambioRuote.com
Within our portal you can configure your complete wheels, in a few steps.
Just select your car, and the system automatically will show you all the products available and approved for your vehicle. Once you’ve chosen the circle you like most, just enter the product tab and see the ETs available for that circle. The lower the ET, the more the rim will protrude outwards but never out of the body as required by law.
Once you have chosen the alloy wheels you can complete the selection of tyres: you can choose from a wide range of models, brands, sizes and types.
Assembly and balancing is free.
