WHAT RISKS DO YOU RUN?

The law stipulates that the minimum tread depth allowed for your tires is 1.6 mm, but it's better not to let it get that low!

• Uneven wear:

It affects the stability of your car.

The reasons for this situation may be a problem with alignment, impacts, and many other things. In this case, it is always a good idea to consult a tire specialist.

• Reduced ability to withstand stress:

Your tire could burst, causing you to lose control or have an accident.

THE COIN TRICK

Now that you have an idea of how to check your tires, you can try this little trick, which could save you from getting a fine.

For winter tires, insert a 2 euro coin into the tread groove. If the silver band is visible, you need to change them. For summer or all-season tires, follow the same procedure but use a 1 euro coin. If you see the gold edge, you need to change them.

WHAT ARE THE ITALIAN PENALTIES?

The fine can range from a minimum of €87 to a maximum of €344 (Art. 66/Art. 79 CdS), with up to 3 points deducted from the driver's license and possible withdrawal of the vehicle registration document.

In the event of an accident, the insurance company may take action against the driver if it is established that the tires were not in compliance with regulations (Art. 175, paragraph A, letter H).
