WHAT IS THE DOT OF A TYRE? LET'S FIND OUT TOGETHER
The abbreviation DOT derives from the English Department Of Transportation and indicates the production date of a tire.
European legislation requires all tire manufacturers to report this code on the side of the tire. The last four numbers indicate the production date of the tyre, more precisely, the week and year.
For example, a DOT 4020 indicates that the tire was manufactured in the fortieth week of the year 2020.
All manufacturers guarantee that the tires are considered new up to 4 years from the production date, as long as they are stored appropriately and away from the bad weather.
Precisely for this reason, all the tires in our warehouse are stored correctly on shelves raised from the ground, in an environment protected from atmospheric interference and far from heat sources.
In this regard, Pirelli said that “The tire does not get old on the tire shop's shelf if stored correctly.” There are the heating, cooling or deformation of the side during rolling that affects the life of the tire. The French manufacturer Michelin also helped to highlight the concept with the campaign "Tires are not bananas!" - - explaining that the actual aging of tires begins only after the first use.
Despite this, we always do our best to please our customers and all the tires on our site have at most 36 months of life. In addition, to offer an optimal and complete service, we also offer previously manufactured tires, highlighting the year of manufacture in the title of the article with the wording DOT followed by four digits indicating the year (for example DOT2018).
The Type of the car is a code that the producer assigns to each vehicle in order to distinguish it from similar models.
You can find this code in the italian registration certificate in two places: At point D.2, Vehicle type, or at point E, vehicle identification number.
